Personal Statement
Write a personal statement between 500 and 1000 words that includes responses to the following:
1. Why do I want to participate in the OmniSOC Internship program (what do I hope to gain from this summer research experience)?
2. What are my short- and long-term career goals?
3. What are my personal qualities, research, and/or technical skills that are applicable for this research experience? In particular, comment on experience with scripting or programming languages (Python, Matlab, etc.) and command line experience (Unix/Linux).
----
For example, you can write about your technical familiarity with hardware & software, network safety, and information security, and/or you can write about your experiences with consumer confidentiality, identity theft, and strategizing how to recover from cyber incidents/ IT disasters. You will discover that you have more experiences related to cybersecurity than you might realize. You can also write about your short-term and long-term career goals statement if you wish.
if you have an inquisitive nature, problem solving skills, technical aptitude, and a desire to understand the interconnection among people, systems, and application, then you should consider a career in cybersecurity. The OmniSOC summer internship invites highly motivated students to learn first-hand what it’s like to work in a security operations center (SOC). The career pathway is not straightforward because most cybersecurity professionals come from a variety of backgrounds, including the humanities, social studies, and any combination of experiences you have across the computer technology spectrum.
